Job Searching and Online Personal Branding - Tune in to our next Make It Monday show on Facebook Live for tips from Praynka Toor, who at 23, became a manager at a Fortune 500 company.
This is paraphrased from the interview Seth Godin did on the #AskGaryVee Show, Episode 185. One of Seth’s main points was that too many people use social media only to consume because that is what social media are optimized for. However, the true power of social media is the ability to create. He goes on to say that people refrain from creating out of fear. Do you create content on social media or do you only like, comment, and share? If you do not create content, what is stopping you from doing so? 🤔
As social media continue to become major forms of communication, be aware that every single thing you post is a reflection of yourself. This is true whether you are using social media for personal or professional goals. We all know that our lives are made up of SO much more than what we post. Still, it's natural for people to make judgements and associations based only on what they see.
TEENS, start building your personal brand now by creating a LinkedIn profile. This is from LinkedIn’s Family Center: First, fill out your profile. When you create your profile, think about establishing your "personal brand", - how you want to be known by others. You can also let people know about what you've achieved at school and where you hope to be in the future. Second, connect with friends, classmates, teachers, and anyone else who could potentially help you in your career. You never know where an opportunity will come from! Finally, you can also use LinkedIn to search for and apply for internships.
It’s important to be aware that your feeds, streams, and search results are carefully curated using algorithms to provide you with content that has been determined to be most interesting to you, based on your previous behavior. Many content based platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, use algorithms to select the content that you see. So if you engage with content about a specific topic or from a specific user, you will see more of that similar type of content the next time you log on. 📲❗️
